The volumes of interconnected sections of large, irregular, or inaccessible apparatus can be measured by quantitative cryogenic transfer of a xenon gas fill to weighing bottles. Tests with eight containers from 75 to 10thinsp;000 cm3using relatively simple equipment, showed that: (1) absolute volumes of 250 cm3or larger can be measured with a reproducibility on the order of 0.02percnt; and with an accuracy on the order of 0.05percnt; and (2) the ratios among two or more volumes can be determined with a reproducibility of 0.01percnt;ndash;0.001percnt;, depending on volume.
