Garry Winogrand once said, "I photograph to see what the world looks like in photographs." To the uninitiated, his response may sound flippant. But it makes perfect sense. You don't know what the picture is going to look like until you see it through the lens, which is why photographers will endlessly debate the merits of various focal lengths. Ask most photographers which lens they reach for when a stunning vista or spectacular landscape presents itself and most will tell you they go for the wide angle. To deliver a graphic, two-dimensional punch and add a different look to the same old view, try a super-telephoto.
