The use of oxy-fuel burners instead of air burners in industrial furnaces increases thermal efficiency and the proportion of useful heat for melting. Messer Griesheim has developed a range of oxy-fuel burners for use in the melting of metals. Besides the Oxipyr burners made of stainless steel with a high flame pulse rate, Quadraflo burners with a ceramic block are also used. Oxyfuel burners are available for melting steel, cast iron or aluminium. All the usual fuels such as natural gas, propane and light or heavy oil can be combusted with oxygen.
