Eclipse Aviation is using friction stir welding to replace riveting in production of the company's maiden aircraft, the Eclipse 500, scheduled for rollout in August 2003.The Eclipse 500, a twin-engine personal jet, will sell for well below competing aircraft in its class, partially due to its use of smaller turbofans, but mainly due to its construction.
