The European steel industry has been heavily affected by the Sept. 11 catastrophe. Speaking at a press conference during the Steel 2001 congress in Dusseldorf, Germany Ing Dieter Ameling, chairman of the German Iron and Steel Institute and president of the German Steel Federation, said that after the tragic events in the United States, 'any attempt to deliver fore-casts with respect to economic developments is quite precarious."
