This article reviews the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the T-hydroxytryptamine receptor suhgroup type 3 (5-HT;) receptor antagonist ondansetron. The clinical applications of ondansetron in emesis are reviewed, with particular emphasis on its use in the prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting.
