AbstractThe recent emphasis on total quality management and continuous quality improvement (TQM/CQI) is a positive way to improve the professional status of nurses and minimize repetitive cycles of nursing shortages. The author reviews the history and the current status of the supply and demand for nursing personnel, and suggests solutions for preventing shortages that incorporate TQM/CQI strategies.
