Security advances are often a response to new threats. This is certainly the case for DSL-managed service offerings, where real and potential security threats exist based on familiar and new classes of attack. Service providers need a structured methodology for achieving security for their digital subscriber line (DSL)-managed services. This means focusing on the cost/benefit information that helps determine the requirements and effectiveness of security policies, procedures, personnel and automated defense systems.
