abstract_textpUsing a Spectral unit, 207 electroretinograms were carried out on miniature poodles suffering from decreased visual acuity. One half of the poodles had an ERG which corresponded to a diagnosis of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA). The group of dogs affected was younger (8.4 +/- 2.3 years old) than the healthy group of dogs (9.3 +/- 3.5 years old). There was no sexual predisposition (chi(2) = 0.852, p = 0.4454). However, the statistical results recorded unambiguously bear out one observation which is very often encountered in the course of clinical examinations (chi(2) = 18.402, p = 0.0004*), which is that some colours of poodle suffer more frequently from progressive retinal atrophy than others. In actual fact, poodles of a darker colour (grey 61.5 , black 56.4 ) suffer more frequently from PRA than poodles with a lighter colour of coat (apricot 35.8 , white 7.6 )./p/abstract_text
