"Usually, I take a 45 minute walk to get to the location where this photo was taken but, on that day, my friend Robert came all the way to Vienna just to photograph Breitling's Super Constellation, which was resting at Vienna Airport on this clear September morning. We drove to the fence alongside the touchdown zone of Runway 16, a position where light conditions are ideal during the early morning hours. Trying not to completely freeze the motion, I experimented with different shutter speeds, so that I could catch more of the energy and speed that's involved when the rubber of a Triple Seven's main landing gear hits the concrete at around 145kts. For this shot, I used a lens that's actually a little telescope; it has a fixed aperture of f/10 and is manual focus only. Working with it takes practice and patience, but with a burst of three or four frames in a row, I often manage to get the desired moment in focus."
