Research in medical genetics and subcellular physiology has produced dramatic advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of muscle diseases. This review updates the application of this knowledge to the perioperative management of patients with muscle disorders. The topic of special interest is the potential interactions between the pathological condition, therapeutic modalities, and drugs administered during anesthesia.
