Codelco of Chile has has awarded SMS Demag a 10 million Euro contract to supply and commission a submerged arc furnace plant able to convert 3,450 tons of copper slag into 1,600 tons of copper matte per day.The turnkey system will be installed at Codelco's Chuquicamata's works in the north of the country. Chilean consortium member Ocegtel will assist SMS Demag by liasing with local suppliers and installing the necessary foundations and structural steelwork at the Chuquicamata site.
