Langmuir waves in a plasma can have phase velocities equal to C; such waves in laboratory plasmas can support very large electric fields ( approximately 108V/cm). Such waves make ideal high energy accelerators. The beat wave and wake field methods for generating such waves are discussed. Stability and focusing properties are considered. The possibility of using plasmas to focus high energy particle bunches is also shown to offer interesting possibilities.
