摘要

A threaded component produced by machining a cold-headed part can be a costly item, given the production and handling time required and the wasting of ever-more-expensive material. At a manufacturing cost of more than 30 cents, the part's final assembler looked for ways to save and approached metalformer Truex, Inc., Pawtucket, RI. By redesigning the manufacturing process, Truex converted the component to a deep-drawn stamping with threading occurring in a transfer press, yielding a completed part out of the press while cutting the manufacturing cost by half.Truex, founded in 1976, originally supplied couplings for the garden-hose industry. Today, in its 40,000-sq.-ft. facility, running three shifts six days per week, the company provides high-volume stampings in order quantities from 100,000 to 10 million pieces, and carries out drawn and deep-drawn precision forming, transfer-press operations, annealing, stress relief, cleaning, bright dip and custom assembly. It also supplies temporary and production tooling. Parts are produced from carbon and stainless steel, aluminum, copper and brass. Besides producing and stocking catalog items such as garden-hose couplings and industrial-hose ferrules, Truex also provides custom deep-drawn parts for a variety of industries.
