The Shape Memory Textiles Centre (SMTC) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which was established in 2003, has now successfully created SM fibres from SM polymers, as announced at a press conference held at the centre on December 14, 2007. SM fibres can be made into SM yarns and SM fabrics, according to Hu Jinlian, professor at the PolyU's Institute of Textiles and Clothing, who is a pioneer of the SM project and a founder of the SMTC.
