There is renewed interest in the treatment of high blood cholesterol in patients with coronary heart disease. Cohort and angiographic studies indicate the continued influence of total, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and possible influence of apolipoproteins Ashy;-l and B on atherosclerosis. Intensive treatment of high LDL cholesterol is effective in reducing the risk of reinfarction in patients with coronary heart disease.
