To simplify the inspection and assembly of bubular components with multiple bends, RMDG Aerospace has developed the Modular-Fix fixturing system, to be used with a coordinate measuring machine. Patent-pending Modular-Fix comprises a range of standardised units, including bases, suoport columns, extension arms, adjustable V-blocks, support stations and universal mounting blocks. An operator can quickly assemble the units to produce a firm structure, which has the freedom of movement required to adjust settings prior to locking the assembly into its final position. Using master pipe as a guide, the operator easily obtains a structure with a series of locating surfaces that comply with the pipe's profile. The locating surfaces on the fixture provide supports and reference faces for the critical parts of the manipulated pipe.
