The care of the child with congenital or acquired heart disease poses a significant challenge to the anesthesiologist. Recent investigations described the application of new technologies and management strategies, warned us of potentially life-threatening acquired heart disease in selected pediatric populations, and provided clarification of the role of the anesthesiologist as an important member of the pediatric cardiac management team.
