SIX YEARS AGO,packaging designer and food engineer Janne Asikainen carried out an experimental street kitchen project as part of Helsinki World Design Capital year.He was able to observe from a close distance how high-quality fast food prepared by chefs was served-and especially in what kind of packaging.After the event,the collaboration with chef Arto Rastas was taken further in the form of an event catering company.”I noticed that paper pockets are good and sufficient for hamburgers and buns,and yet healthier food is usually packed in unecological plastic containers,”says Asikainen,explaining the background.The idea of ecological takeaway packaging stayed in his mind.In 2015,Asikainen established innovation company Koepala.The company designs and commercializes takeaway packaging and bases its business on responsibility thinking.
