Announcing the firm's first-half re-sults, Chumphol NaLamlieng, President of the Siam Cement Group, said that the petrochemical division (Cementhai Chemical) led the company with sales of Baht 42.94 billion (US$1,070 million), 34 greater than the corresponding result in 2004 despite a drop in olefins prices of Baht 3,000/t during the second quarter. Mr Chumphol sees all prices standing higher this quarter, with sales margins rising to match those of the first quarter. In the fourth quarter Cementhai Chemical plans to shut down its olefins plant for annual maintenance. This will exert dispropor-tional pressure on total petrochemical production, since olefins represent 50 of total production.
