Osteoporosis, cancer are male threats, too. All those commercials about getting more calcium are usually aimed squarely at women, and for good reason. Osteoporosis has been regarded as a female ailment, and even the USDA's NHANES study (a nutrient intake study done every 10 years) has emphasized women's intakes of calcium. But more careful study of the data shows that men are also at risk of osteoporosis, although at a lower ratio than women, and that calcium consumption may be important for cancer prevention and for cardiac health as well.
