The purpose of this study considers the possibility to use roomhyphen;temperature liquid dielectrics for computed xhyphen;ray tomography (250hyphen;keV average energy). For this application, the most important consequence of a device, using a roomhyphen;temperature liquid dielectric as detector in the ionization chambers, will be the lowering of the cost by removing some present technological constraints (cryogenics, high pressure). The studied liquids are tetramethylsilane (C4H12Si, TMS), tetramethylgermanium (C4H12Ge, TMGe), and tetramethyltin (C4H12Sn, TMSn). Experimental results are presented to characterize these roomhyphen;temperature liquid dielectrics with x rays. The liquid, which has the most interesting characteristics for xhyphen;ray detection (low dark current, high ionization current, high ionic mobility, low average energy to generate electronhyphen;ion pairs), is tetramethylgermanium. Its use in an industrial tomographic device is then possible.
