The bending behaviour of fabrics depends on the bending properties of the yarn. The bending properties of yarn are here studied based on an approximate tri-point bending model. Paper presented to the 84th Textile Institute Annual World Conference. The bending behaviour of fabrics and yarns plays a vitally important role in the handle, aesthetics and performance of end-use textiles. Hence many researchers have paid much attention to the bending rigidity of yarns and fabrics, and developed corresponding apparatus to measure the bending rigidity of yarns or fabrics. Peirce (1926) first studied the bending rigidity based on the cantilever and the hanging loops of a fabric or a yarn, and was also the first person that suggested studying the mechanical properties of fabric by modeling the geometry of the yarn (1937).
