摘要

We show how the theorem of minimum entropy production of irreversible thermodynamics may be used to confirm the reality of the torque exerted on oriented liquid crystal molecules by an ultrasonic wave. This torque has previously been related to the anisotropy of acoustic attenuation. The analogy with the Langevin radiation pressure is underlined, and the possible existence of an ultrasonichyphen;type Frederiks transition is discussed.
