Dropshafts, siphons, inclined conduits, and weirs are somehydraulic structures which involve air entrainment. This paperinvestigates three mechanisms of air entrainment suggestingbroad-brush equa- tions to predict the aeration rate. Air bubbletransport in closed conduits down- stream of the entrainment point isalso considered. This section deals with threshold conditions totransport air bubbles in a closed conduit, and how much air istransported, particularly relation to the conduit length/conduitdimension ration.
