Metra's new 55 MN press is already in use. The largest extrusion press to be installed in Italy has started to work. This machine was supplied by Breda Danieli, while the plants down-stream from it were built by Omav. It has a yearly production capacity in excess of 20,000 tons and the investment made by Metra amounted to about 30 million Euros. Italy is an importing country of large sections and has a production capacity somewhere in the region of 450,000 tons. The European market of large extruded products is also showing interesting yearly growth trends. In the light of this information, Metra intends to find a place in a very interesting and significant market niche. The objective of the company is to improve its image at international level in order to acquire new market share, thus contributing towards reducing the deficit in the country's import/export balance of aluminium sections.
