摘要

An investigation on air layering and softwood grafting in jamun (Syzygium cumini) was carried out at the Division of Horticulture, Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, with the objective of standardization of vegetative propagation methods in jamun. Air layers were prepared during June, July, August, September and October and treated with IBA at different concentrations (2500, 5000 and 10000 ppm). The rooting behavior of air layers revealed that, air layers prepared during the month of July recorded the maximum percentage of rooting (66.70) followed by June (60) and August (53.33). Air layers treated with 10000 ppm IBA during September layering produced the maximum number of adventitious roots (2.24). However, root length (3.07 cm), root girth (0.94 mm) and number of tertiary roots (5.95) were highest in 10000 ppm IBA treated layers during the month of July. Studies on softwood grafting in jamun revealed that jamun can be very well grafted on its own and Syzgium operculatum rootstocks. Softwood grafting during June recorded maximum grafting success in both types of rootstocks used (S. cumini 94 and S. operculatum 92) compared to other months of grafting.
