The tensile behavior of quasi-isotropic woven silicon carbidefabric reinforced silicon-carbon-nitrogen (SiC/SiNC) matrixcomposites has been investigated at both room and elevatedtemperature. The load-displacement and subsequent stress- straincurves at a temperature range of 230 deg C-13800 deg C weregenerated. The failure strength, failure strain. proportional limitand modulus of SiC/SiNC composites are reported. The failuremechamsms under monotonic tensile loading were studied using acousticemission techinque and detailed optical and scanning electronmicroscopic examinations. The SiC/SiNC woven composites were analyzedunder tensile loading by finite element method using isoparanietriclayered shell elements. The thermal stresses at different temperaturerange are also incorporated with the mechanical stress in order toobserve the influence of thermal expansion coefficient at elevatedtemperature. Both the normal and interlaminar shear stressdistribution across the thickness are analyzed at room and elevatedtemperatures.
