Amorphous (vitreous) Y3Fe5O12has been prepared using the twinhyphen;roller quenching technique. The material is antiferromagnetic with a Neacute;el temperature of approximately 40 K. The Mouml;ssbauer spectra indicate that the iron environment in the amorphous material is different from that in crystalline Y3Fe5O12(YIG).
