摘要

Anthracnose of pomegranate caused by C. gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. and Sacc. has become a potentially destructive disease both under field and post-harvest storage conditions. In recent years the disease has become a serious problem in northern Karnataka. Therefore, investigations were carried out on various aspects of the pathogen with respect to cultural and pathogenic variation in order to understand the pathogen variability for its effective management of this menace. All the eight isolates of C. gloeosporioides collected from northern Karnataka (India) showed significant difference in relation to radial growth, colony character, pigmentation and sporulation on potato dextrose agar. Maximum radial growth of 90.0 and 88.5 mm was recorded in Cgr-2 and Cgr-1 isolates, respectively. It was followed by Cgb-2 and Cgk-1 which recorded 87.0 and 85.0 mm radial growth. With respect to colony characters, three types of colonies were observed. Maximum sporulation with excellent grade was recorded in Cgb-1, while fair sporulation was noticed in Cgk-1, Cgk-2 and Cgk-3 isolates. The size of spores also varied among the isolates. Large sized spores (2.25-2.50x0.90-1.00 micro m) were observed in Cgk-1, while least sized spores (1.37-1.5x0.87-1.0 micro m) were recorded in Cgb-1 isolate.
