This review article evaluates the current engineering practices applied in flood control studies. Recent trends in flood control techniques are reviewed. The limitations of present methods relating to the flood control aspects of culvert analysis, flood statistics and flood synthesis are discussed. New modelling techniques recently introduced are also evaluated.
