The far IR spectra of mixtures of acetonitrile and hydrogen cyanide isolated in solid argon have been measured over the range 200ndash;10 cmminus;1. Depending on the physical conditions and on the sample preparation, absorption patterns of two different 1:1 complexes have been observed: (a) a predominantly antiparallel structure giving rise to four far IR bands and (b) a more stable linear hydrogen bonded structure exhibiting only two far IR bands.
