A variational model is studied with the Percusndash;Yevick hard sphereg(r). Using the PY virial entropy, it predicts a universal expression for the potential energy in the strong coupling regimeU/NKBT =amGgr;+bnGgr;1/4minus;0.5 for all inverse power potentials.
