The negotiations for the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) between Pakistan and the US are likely to snag because the two countries have yet to agree on some controversial clauses of the agreement. The two sides have met many times since 2004 to conclude the BIT which is the first step for negotiating a free trade agreement. The controversial clauses blocking progress are identified as the treaty's scope and coverage, transpar-ency, claims on behalf of US enterprises, investment agreements and arbitration rules.
