The calculated band shapes and intensities of the depolarized light scattering from dense systems of atoms interacting with either hardhyphen;sphere or Lennardndash;Jones potentials are shown to agree qualitatively with experiment, if an empirical form for the pairwise polarizability distortion anisotropy is used.
