A database for quantitative determination of minerals by X-mypowder diffraction is developed. The method is based on thecomparison of the diffraction pattern from an unknown sample with adatabase of diffraction patterns. made up of eight differentcompositions of the analysed minerals. The database is developed forthe analysis of cristobalite (SiO_2), mullite (3Al_2O_3·2SiO_2), andcorundum (Al_2O_3), using either an added reference (zinc oxide), oran internal reference (corundum). The amount of cristobalite, mulliteand corundum present in the sample is calculated through regressionanalysis involving the correlation of the reference peak areas.Typical relative errors of calculation range between 2/100 and4.5/100.
