Nippon Steel has investigated the incorporation of organics intoinorganic oxide networks at a molecular level to synthesizeinorganc/organic hybrid hybrid materials which not only have both theproperties of inorganic and organic materials but also thepossibility of providing novel properties (synergistic properties)unknown in con- ventional materials. Monolithic and homogeneousinorganic/organic hybrids in- cluding various inorganic componentswere synthesized by sol-gel processing, which provides an inorganicoxide network at low temperatures through chemical reac- tions ofalkoxide precursors.
