Mycotic infection in some reproductive disorders of bovine

An investigation was conducted on 86 cows and 34 buffaloes from India, with a clinical history of reproductive disorders. The uterine and vaginal discharge from these cases were processed for fungal isolation. These samples harboured 41 (35.97%) fungal isolates from 30 (32.5%) animals. The most common fungal isolates were Aspergillus spp. (56.09%), with A. niger, A. fumigatus and A. flavus comprising 41.46, 9.75 and 4.88%, respectively, followed by Penicillium spp. (19.5%), Candida spp. (9.75%) andRhizopus spp., Rhizomucor pusillus, Aureobasidium spp., Cladosporium cladosporioides, Cryptococcus laurentii and Rhodotorula rubra (2.44%) each. In vitro sensitivity of these isolates to copper sulphate thiabendazole, mycostatin and miconazole at various concentrations indicated that all isolates were sensitive to copper sulphate at >0.5% concentration and least sensitive to miconazole. The sensitivity to other antifungal drugs varied considerably between species and drug concentrations.
