When BHP Coated Steel Australia produced its 5 millionth ton of COLORBOND~ò steel, the company wanted to celebrate in a unique way.As a tribute to the Australian public that has supported COLORBOND for 35 years and a celebration of the International Year of the Volunteer, BHP launched the "Art on Steel" project - a community arts program that will benefit one of the most highly regarded volunteer organizations in Australia, the State Emergency Service (SES).Seventeen Australian artists (Aboriginal, contemporary, abstract and landscape) participated in the program, taking a portion of the history-making steel and creating paintings or sculptures.
