Amsterdam— AkzoNobel's specialty chemicals business and specialty polymers firm Itaconix have finalized the first application agreement for bio-based polymers (PCN, 30 Jan 2017, p 3). The joint development agreement, announced earlier this year, involves AkzoNobel's Performance Additives unit developing applications for Itaconix polymers utilizing Ita-conix's proprietary polymerization technology to turn ita-conic acid, which is obtained from sugars through fermentation, into polymers.
