Tri Star Apparel Exporters will establish an apparel village in the Trincomalee district investing over Rs 500 million (US$4.4 million). The company's chairman, Kumar Devapura, said the aim was to establish five garment factories in the village providing 5,000 jobs in Thambalagamuwa. The first factory that will employ 1,000 people will be ready within three months. With foreign collaboration, it will take an investment of Rs 100 million (some $880,000). The others will be operational within a year. Nearly 3,000 job seekers have registered with the company and already 150 persons are under training on supervising, cutting, machine operating and computer operating.
