A novel powder processing route for short fiber ceramic matrixcomposites (CMCs), based on using a twin rolling mill, has beendeveloped. This has been seen to be an efficient and easy way ofmixing the composite constituents while obtaining a high degree offibre alignment. The production of the green composites by thismethod has taken an average of ten minutes. In this report a systemof Nicalon fibres in silicon, subsequently reaction bonded to form amatrix of reaction bonded silicon nitride, has been emphasised.
