The conference involved an intensive series of sessions, from keynote presentations to themed research discussions, over a 3-day period with opportunities to relax and interact in between - specifically during the coffee breaks, lunch times, and at both the cocktail and conference banquet. The Sri Lankan section of the Textile Institute had pulled out all the stops to ensure good hospitality, this in the light of political undertones and the 'no show' of a variety of presenters who might, under different circumstances, have been pleased to air their research findings. Thanks were indeed due to Professor Lakdas Fernando for his good management, also Dr Wimalaweera for ensuring all delegates were well taken care of. Sri Lanka's industry was praised in glowing terms by all present, from chief sponsor M S onwards, and it was indicative of the country's good standing in the textiles and ap-parel community that the conference was hailed a success. The debate about the '86th' in the series is still being held and, at time of going to press, there was only speculation, no true indication of the next venue. Any subsequent TIWC will need an equally enchanting site and some high level speakers to draw both publicity and delegates, in which case, sign up early for a seat in the conference.
