Fusion welding of Ti-silicon carbide fibre (SiC_f) reinforcedmetal matrix composites (MMCs) may lead to matrix/fibre reaction, thus degrading the material properties. Solid phase joints at lowertemperatures in principle allow bonding without significantinterfacial reaction. Solid state joining of Ti/SiC_f MMC wasstudied, using resistance heating: currents were low and applied overlong times. To avoid fusion. Process parameters and material surfacecondition were varied, and lap tensile shear tests were carried out, with metallographic and fractographic examination.
