The European Commission thinks that the country-of-origin label can ensure an open marketplace; but many in different quarters see the idea as a non-tariff trade barrier. Is the label "Made in China" or India, or Vietnam, or wherever, a non-tariff barrier aimed at protecting the European textile and clothing industry?
