Recently, due to the increasing of interests on repair and retrofitting, composite materials such as carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plate have been used to strengthen concrete structures. But, concrete structures strengthened with CFRP plate have problems of premature and brittle failure accompanied with de-bonding of CFRP plate. That is, de-bonding of CFRP plate can be considered as an important factor of specimen failure. Therefore in this study, nondestructive test using acoustic emission (AE) was performed to monitor crack source location and evaluate structural integrity of the concrete structures strengthened with CFRP plate. Also, relationship between AE parameters and load was analyzed, and AE characteristics on micro-cracking behavior of RC beam strengthened with CFRP plate were studied. The results showed that crack source location using AE technique was well in accordance with real crack distribution. So, AE technique can be applied to monitor crack occurrence or growth on the concrete structures strengthened with CFRP plate in the future.
