Bi_12SiO_20 and Bi_12TiO_20 crystals were grown using the meltingtechnique. The crystals were characterized by DTA, X-ray diffraction, and chemical etching. The fanning effect is known as aself-scattering process in which a single laser light beamSelf-generates scattering in an symmetrical way. The intensitydistribution of fanning light in the far Field measured under anapplied electric field, normalized to the intensity measured withouta field Represents the two-wave mixing gain factor γ. For theexperiments an argon laser with λ=515bn and the maximum power of 0.5W was Used and the scattered intensity was recorded. The factor γ(θ,α) for a set of samples was calculated Using the intensitydistribution in the far field, recorded with a CCD camera.
