A high pressure longhyphen;path cell used in the study of collisionhyphen;induced simultaneous transitions in binary gas mixtures is described. An application is made to N2+ SF6mixtures. The transition of the ngr;3band of SF6associated with the fundamental vibration of N2has been extensively studied for low pressures of SF6and densities of N2up to 490 amagat. As density of N2increases, the observed bands are markedly narrowed their absorption maxima are shifted, and the integrated intensities show a slight deviation from linearity.
