Quenching of Hg(61P1) and Hg(63P0,1,2larr;61P1) intermultiplet transfer induced by collisions with H2molecules have been studied. The 61P1state was excited by a 185 nm radiation generated by two photon resonant four wave sum mixing in Hg vapor, the 61P1and 61P0,1,2state populations were probed by laser induced fluorescence. The Hg(61P1) quenching rate constant has been found equal to 6plusmn;0.9times;10minus;10sminus;1thinsp;cm3in good agreement with a previous determination. The ratio of the 63P2larr;61P1and 63P1larr;61P1transfer rate constants has been determined; no transfer to the 63P0state was observed.
