A numerical method is presented of finding the rms width and the height of a Maxwellian transverse velocity distribution from an experimentally obtained beamlet profile formed by a finitehyphen;width slit. The results are also leasthyphen;squares fit to polynomials that can be very conveniently used in actual data analyses.
